This design-build renovation transformed a 1965 kitchen into an open, modern space connected to the adjacent living areas. We developed and presented new layout options that became the basis for the remodel, opening the kitchen to the surrounding areas and greatly improving the circulation and usability of the home.
Our designer helped refine the cabinet layout, appliance placement, lighting plan, and overall functionality. We removed the three interior walls enclosing the kitchen, re-framed the opening, and installed a new casement window behind the sink that also serves as a convenient pass-through to the backyard. Water, gas, and electrical systems were rerouted and updated throughout, including new dedicated circuits to support the reconfigured layout.
The cabinetry is built around IKEA’s Sektion system and upgraded with All Style doors and panels, which are purpose-made to pair with IKEA cabinet boxes and elevate the overall finish. A black soapstone island anchors the room, while Arabescato Corchia marble was used for the perimeter counters, backsplash, and the custom ledge beneath the vent hood. Hidden electrical within the island and appliance garage keeps surfaces clean and uncluttered. The homeowners applied Roman Clay above the ledge and around the sink and window to complete the finish palette.
The result is a warm, highly functional kitchen that blends elevated materials with thoughtful planning—turning the home’s original layout into a modern, welcoming centerpiece for daily living.
